NEM Together: December 2020 update
TOGETHER AT NEM
It’s been a month of real progress as we gear up to launch Symbol. As you’ll read in the rest of this month’s newsletter we’ve been smashing it across the board! Exchanges announcing support for Symbol, new wallets going live, a huge amount of effort (not to mention skill) going on with the tech development. Whilst we still have a lot to do, things are coming together to ensure that we are proud of the launch of Symbol.
David Shaw, NEM GROUP CEO
We are currently working behind the scenes to open doors post Symbol launch and have started on the implementation of our commercial and technical strategy.
The main focus this month has been on recruitment, marketing, sales, technical and back office improvements on process, policy and infrastructure. We’re working on building a strong foundation to expand and grow the team as we look forward to 2021 and the exciting opportunities that Symbol will bring!
On the technology front, we’ve been busy preparing for the future of Symbol in 2021.
We’ve started the search for some rockstar engineering talent to join our ranks; building out our monitoring and enrolment programs for Symbol nodes; and begun finalizing for public release.
The much planned and awaited final major Symbol Release and Testnet patch is now available.
You can find further detail in the forum post here.
We are continuing to progress the due diligence of several companies
and have received multiple new proposals. We recently announced the investment into Wave Financial Group who are tokenizing an investment fund on Symbol that holds Bourbon Whiskey barrels.
Our Symbol SI Partner Program has now launched on our website and we are actively working with partners globally to enroll them into the SI programme.
It offers real value to our Partners with different levels of hands-on technical, marketing and sales support from the NEM team, dependent on the SI Partner level. Companies such as SuperHow, Peersyst, IoDlt and 482 Solutions have already been certified with more in the pipeline across the globe.
If you’re interested in signing up or know of any Enterprise-grade SI partners who are able to deliver leading-edge solutions for their customers using the Symbol Platform then please let us know by contacting [email protected].
We are gearing up for the launch of Symbol
Watch this space for more info on how to get involved in the different launch tracks to celebrate Symbol from NEM and the NEM Community.
We have also been busy promoting and building partnerships to strengthen our network, including a new promotion with Travala, with every trip you book using $XEM, you earn 10% #XEM back.
We ran a mini-sprint campaign on Asset Tokenization, featuring enterprise-focused articles, our second webinar, and a great video from Antony Welfare. We are using the sprints to test and prepare the ground for NEM Software launch marketing in 2021.
As we get close to Symbol launch, both our social and online reach and engagement is growing as more people get excited about NEM and Symbol. Please check out the November social media and website report here.
Finance / Trading
Our priorities this month have been ensuring exchanges support Symbol Opt-in,
boosting the liquidity of our token, preparing for the launch of Wrapped NEM Tokens with our partner Stakehound and onboarding Staking services. We have made significant progress in all areas which the community will be able to see in upcoming announcements in the lead-up to Launch.
Busy and exciting times in NEM with the upcoming Symbol release.
Our Operations team is working hard in order to enable the necessary structure to support this very important milestone.
Our three main areas of focus at the moment are:
- Standardization: Ensuring that everybody is working uniformly using the same tools and that the outcomes of each and every process are predictable.
- Documentation: All company processes are documented and stored in a centralized repository.
- Enablement: Communicating these processes internally and ensuring they are adopted across the entire company.
An example of this is we are currently working cross-functionally to have a single contract management process while also reviewing our current suppliers to understand how we best invest to obtain the right ROI.
The past 4 weeks has been an exciting time as we plan on growing our businesses in 2021.
We are currently going out to market to attract great talent into our Technology and Commercial teams in the Software Co.
There will also be new opportunities in other areas in the coming months. To ensure the vacancies are visible to everyone, we will be adding an extra Job Opportunity section to our Website shortly.
There’s been some absolutely phenomenal work going on as we prepare for Launch – the Technology team are doing some amazing things, as are the Marketing, Ops, Finance and Commercial teams.
This month we’re spotlighting two people in the team who have gone above and beyond in their work. We’ve reached out to them to discover their personal interests and to learn more about their role at NEM.
Beatrice has been involved with NEM since 2018 and is currently working in the marketing team as the Lead Graphics Designer. She is the creator of this beautiful newsletter you’re reading and works on many other design projects that bring NEM and Symbol to life. Beatrice is based in the Philippines, is the proud owner of 2 cats named Lay and Marble and in her spare time enjoys drawing, illustrating, painting and calligraphy.
How did you get into graphic design?
I got into graphic design as a hobby when I was a student. Professionally, I have a background in marketing, advertising and art direction which naturally made me learn and improve on graphic design applications for work.
I started my career in advertising and content creation with my most notable work experience being Art Director at TBWA\Santiago Mangada Puno, a multi-awarded advertising agency in the Philippines. Prior to NEM, I was the Business Innovations and Design Manager at LIDU, an interior design company based in my home town.
What has been your highlight of working at NEM?
My highlight would have to be being part of the creative/design team behind Symbol. It’s an honor to play a role in such a momentous project and I’m looking forward to the launch of Symbol early next year.
What is a bucket list goal of yours?
To be a renowned children’s book illustrator
Wayon has been a part of the NEM ecosystem for almost 2 years and is currently leading the test team for Symbol release in early 2021. He has played a pivotal role as a developer in the tech team, working on opt-in and the launch of Symbol. Wayon is currently located in America but was born and raised in Jamaica and visits home to enjoy the sun and beach when he can. Fun fact he is a twin!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I like running, playing and watching sports (basketball, football, soccer (real football)). Still a techie at heart, I always like to learn new technology and play with gadgets. Currently looking to set up automated blinds at home.
How did you become a developer?
I got a computer in high school and taught myself BASIC programming language. I have been coding ever since. I worked for CA inc. and Microsoft with over 20 years of experience.
At Microsoft, I worked on both Exchange online and Windows as part of the Exchange Anti-malware protection team and had a lead role in advanced threat protection.
What is your favorite Symbol feature?
Hmm…this is hard to say, there are several. I like aggregate transactions since it makes contracts so easy to complete.
A bucket list goal of yours?
Go to the Olympics/ FIFA world cup
We hope all of you, including all of our community members, get some well deserved rest and manage to see close loved ones over the holiday periods coming up! Thank you again for all your hard work!
