Symbol Launch dates confirmed for 15 March 2021
We are excited to confirm that key dates in the conception and launch of Symbol have now been confirmed. Snapshot and pre-launch Opt-in has been confirmed for 12 March, with Snapshot taking place at approx 03.50 at a block height of 3,105,500.
Mainnet launch then follows on 15 March, exact time to be confirmed. These dates represent a major milestone in the development of Symbol over the last 4 years. This has been achieved following a highly robust and rigorous testing programme – making Symbol probably one of the most tested blockchains prior to launch yet.
Symbol is the next generation enterprise-grade blockchain designed for developers, businesses and it will be positioned at the heart of the New Economy that is taking shape all around us.
Symbol has been designed based on the key NEM principle of decentalization – exemplified by the community testing and NEMtus Test event, which through the community, have helped to prepare Symbol for launch and minimise risk.
Symbol from NEM is built to be interoperable; its Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) easily integrate with existing systems and processes, as well as other blockchains. The platform permits atomic cross-chain swaps, enabling the trading of tokens across different blockchains and eliminating the need for intermediaries. It also introduces mosaics, a feature that permits the creation of specialized assets, going beyond tokens to represent shares of stock, signatures, votes or other currencies. Each mosaic has configurable properties and a unique identifier. Together, these features hold huge potential for new financial services, in particular for the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) and Security Token Offering (STO) spaces.
15 March is just the beginning of a new chapter for NEM, as it becomes a two chain ecosystem – with Symbol sitting alongside NIS1, the original blockchain from NEM. There will be an exciting technical roadmap for Symbol, with technology and products coming that will increase the utility of Symbol for the NEM ecosystem.
For now, join us to enjoy an important milestone in NEM’s journey – with the launch of Symbol on the 15 March 2021.
